Wine Benefits

Wine Really Is Good For You!

You may have heard the buzz that wine is actually good for you; as it turns out, the rumors are true! Here are five ways that drinking wine can benefit your health.

1 Drink wine, live longer.

We knew having a glass of wine makes your life better, but it turns out it can make your life longer, too!

Perhaps the most compelling study showing the positive health effects of drinking wine comes from Harvard Medical School. This study finds conclusively that there is a positive correlation between the compound resveratrol found in grapes and red/white wine and long-term health benefits, including anti-aging properties, in animals.

2 Drinking wine protects your brain and your memory.

Drinking wine in moderation can help improve brain function – in fact, scientists believe that wine compounds may protect the brain’s neurons and delay the effects of  neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Alcohol may help clear away toxins that are associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

3 Drinking wine can reduce your risk of developing heart disease.

Likely the most well-known benefit of drinking wine regularly is the correlation with lowering your risk of developing heart disease or stroke.

The tannins in red wine are linked to procyanidins, which improve blood vessel cell health and, consequently, cause improved blood flow. Wine is associated with a reduction in high cholesterol and can lower risk of blood clots and decreased levels of inflammation.

4 Slow Effects of Aging

Along with reducing the risk of heart disease the silicon in wine increases bone density and there are chemical compounds in wine, phenols, that reduce the risk of strokes.  In addition, another phenol, resveratrol increases sensitivity to insulin and type II diabetes.

5 Wine can help your body fight off illnesses.

The antioxidants in wine boost the body’s ability to fight off illnesses. These antioxidants are also linked to reduced inflammation, reduced joint pain, increased insulin sensitivity in diabetics, and even lower rates of certain types of cancers including prostate, lung and breast cancers.
